Our first community walk...
20.04.2025
I had spent a good few months thinking whether it would be a good idea to start community dog walks.
Positives:
- Seeing clients I hardly ever get to see
- Help with socialisation in dogs we have been training
- Helping with general training questions
- Spending time with most client dogs all in one area
- A fun and positive way to interact
- Possible way to meet future clients?
Cons:
- What if something goes wrong?
- Will I be liable?
- What if no one comes?
- What if the dogs don’t get on?
- What if it’s more stressful than a peaceful walk?
It was hard to decide which is why I spent so many months going over and over the pros and cons. In the end the positives weighed out more than the negatives and the ‘what ifs’.
I am so glad I went for it. We had six people come and 5 dogs. It was so lovely. Everyone got along, questions were answered and I got to bond with clients more than I do on a normal work day.
The weather was perfect, warm but not too hot for the dogs, everyone stuck to any rules that were put in place and most importantly the dogs all had the best time with eachother.
We had two new people come and join last minute and it was so lovely, they have turned out to be a future client also which I am super grateful for.
Pablo kept dragging his owners to get to me and walk by me, Daisy ran around finding sticks and jumping in the water, Tillie and Rebel basically stayed with Elaine the entire time (she had treats haha) and Archie gave the water a go and socialised with every single dog.
I cannot thank everyone enough for joining our event. It truly was the best thing to have happened that day and I couldn’t of asked for a better outcome.
